One of my areas of specialization is strategic assessment planning in higher education. I am the co-author of the Inquiry-based Praxis Model (IPM), which offers a framework for assessment planning rooted in a rejection of neoliberalism and colonized thought and is supported by a comprehensive implementation template replete with practical strategies and tools. This model is the result of years of collaborative work with my longtime friend and colleague, Dr. James D. Breslin (Jim, he/him/his). The IPM has roots in both sociological and anthropological thought as well as in gender studies. Together Dr. Breslin and I have constructed a model for assessment praxis that intentionally challenges positionalized power, rejects the notion that assessment (or any form of inquiry) can be objective, embraces subjectivity as it is part of our humanity, calls for multiple ways of knowing and making meaning, and rejects hierarchy as the preferred form of social organization in our field. In 2022, College Student Educators International (ACPA) recognized us for our work on the IPM with the Harold E. Cheatham Innovative Practice award.

Dr. Breslin and I offer workshops - both in-person and virtually - on our strategic assessment planning model.
